Windows 10

Postby buzz on Mon Aug 31, 2015 2:42 pm

Anyone do the upgrade yet? I've tried it on 2 laptops and not having great luck for different reasons..

1 laptop now takes 30 minutes to boot up before its semi-usable. The CPU and Memory isn't that high but the disk is pegged at 100% .. On my other laptop (clean install) randomly freezes for just a second or 2 .. Just enough to make it really annoying. It looks nice and all but i'm going back.

One laptop went well,

Desktop was pretty awful, took 3 tries to install and every time i had to redownload the whole thing. Eventually it installed, but it keeps fucking with me. Tons of games that used to work don't now. The firewall seems to keep turning itself out automatically even though I disable it, Not super happy with it, but I'll move all my boxes over eventually. I'm holding off on a lot because of dual boots and it will wipe out grub etc.

I heard somewhere that it's not good for games .. I don't play too much anymore, or at least anything intensive so it didn't bother me.

My laptop is still freezing up every minute or so .. I'm going to try a reinstall there since it worked on my wifes laptop. That one is working pretty good so far, no issues since the clean install.

ive had a lot of game issues, and the main reason i moved was of dx12 hype. starcraft 2 took quite a while to get working. Diablo 3 was crashing a lot.

I got it mostly stable in the end, but my 8.1 was still a smoother game experience, even just loading them, etc.

I've heard of a lot of problems when it comes to gaming too and I play too often to risk it. I still play a lot of games to help me relax, currently it's a lot of Rocket League which would be an awesome game at a LAN party IMO. I think I'll just wait till I can afford a new HD and just do a clean install and then copy stuff over from my old HD and use it as a backup drive.

The only way I even consider using it is inside a VM.

I'm still holding off. Maybe when like 13 comes out i'll switch to 10. I just switched to 7 for god's sake.

haha I thought I heard 10 was the last one they're going to make but I don't see how that's possible. There was an article recently that they were "accidentally" forcing the update. oops!

Well, the idea is that Widows 10 is the final "it's a whole different OS!" release. They're supposed to be transitioning to a more android/apple - like release schedule. More frequent, incremental releases. So we should see a 10.1 10.2 10.3 instead of once every 4-6 years, every year, or every other year. So we'll probably hit 13 at some point, but only after we've had a 12.9 or something.

But yea, talk is cheap, they also said that Vista Ultimate was going to have more exclusive stuff added every year aside from what it launched with and uhhhh, nothing happened... we'll see what they really end up doing :)

this is a different Microsoft. I've been extremely impressed with the moves they've made in the last year and a half since their new CEO took over. I think it's funny that no one seems to mention the real reason the skipped windows 9 though... it's obvious to me that since this name is going to be THE name for a while that the couldn't be version 9 when apple has been on version 10 for years. OSX and Win10.

anyway, I think Microsoft can and will pull this off. they've really found their focus and if the internet can stop being so whiny and blowing things out of proportion like they just LOVE to do, I think we'll soon see Microsoft back on top. they aren't perfect but no one is.

Ps. I just bought a mac (need It for app dev)
