Next Gen PC's to Boot in Seconds

Postby buzz on Mon Oct 04, 2010 11:46 am

No more BIOS.. yay! I hate waiting 30 seconds.. UGH!

The next generation of home computers will be able to boot up in just a few seconds, as 25-year-old BIOS technology makes way for new start-up software known as UEFI.

Ya, BIOS is about the only thing that has not changed drastically in many many years but my BIOS doesn't wait a full 30 secs before the OS starts to boot so i dunno how much faster this new method is really gonna be. I wouldnt mind a BIOS that had a higher res tho, i mean damn, what vid card/monitor has less than 2mb of ram and a max res of lower than 1024x768 these days? Maybe enable a mouse and have more info on settings and actually translate them into english properly?? all the would prolly increase boot time tho huh? :(

Yeah it's probably going to be a while before I give a fuck about upgrading past my i7... BIOS startup time? I don't give much of a shit. My PC usually stays on 24/7 or I put it to sleep mode.

Wow, it only took the rest of the world five years to catch up to Apple, who has been using EFI since the first Intel Macs...

That is one thing that I hate about PCs - Adjusting the carburetors is a bitch.

ECM = Electronic control module

EFI = Electronic Fuel Injection.
