Well I'm deployed..

Postby -PC-Taishar on Fri Oct 28, 2011 5:53 am

And what do we do while we are deployed...get jacked.

So I'll admit I've kind of let myself go since the end of my last deployment. I was gone from home so much that a good workout regimen was hard to attain. And I was just jaded that they kept sending me away after having just gotten home. But all that is in the past and I'm starting my new year resolution early. Last year I started a subscription to a site called military athlete. It's similar to cross fit but geared more towards shaping up for the kind of stamina one needs being in the military. I was pretty happy with the results. I'm starting it up again. Only this time I'm logging my progress. I took some before pictures. No glam no flexing, no special lighting, just straight highly unflattering shots from the front, side, and back. With no regard for my own pride I'm posting them here.

I hope that by posting I might get a couple of you that might be thinking about starting a formal workout schedule to do so. Also it will keep me honest. I know that if I slack off the pictures will reflect, and make me look silly.

So anyway the workout consists of downloading the prescribed workout for the day M-F..this program gives you Sat and Sun off which is PHENOMENAL for those that have problems giving up their free time. The only supplements I'm taking right now are NO Xplode and protein. I usually get about 80grams of protein from shakes per day in a mix of whey, cassein, milk, and egg protein. Whey before and after workouts, and Cassein in the morning and at night.
Im not really modifying or tracking my diet other than NOT doing obviously stupid stuff like eating 2 pieces of pie every day. My diet isn't going to be that great...a consequence of being deployed to the buttcrack of the world, but regardless I still try to get ample servings of fruits and veggies and hold off on asinine amounts of super greasy crap.

That being said without further adieu. Here's the pictures.

DON'T JUDGE ME!!!!

I expect to see the most improvement in my legs, and those are not shown really well in this picture. I'll try to get better shots for my first update. Hey I'm in the desert resources are limited!!! Anyway. I hope at least a couple of you are interested in taking this journey with me. If not the least you'll get are some laughs at my flab. Also don't mind the foot or the horrible quality of the 'back' picture. Had an amateur taking the picture!

I never thought I'd ever say that seeing semi naked pictures of a grown man would inspire me, but I have to admit I've been slacking off in my routine walks (5 days a week for 45 minutes) since August when my life got too busy. Thanks for this. I'm taking the dog for a walk right now.

What is up with the foot in the last picture ?!

Also, where are you going? I thought we were sending troops home, not out?

Droog: Thats good to hear. I know this community is starting to age and we cant take our fitness for granted anymore. The days of lanning and eating twinkies, cookies, and mcdonalds are over...doing that and staying in semi good shape at least.

Buzz: See the last sentence of my post :)

Hang: Amy wasn't happy for sure. I've been here about a month now. I may miss our anniversary..again. If I do that will be all three of them I've missed. Funny you should mention staying on base Robb. I've been out twice now with little action. However, just the other day we found this gem:

Was it out on a patrol? Why no, it was buried abnout ten feet from where the entrance to our operations center is. Of course nobody got in our base and buried it but it was probably legacy from when our base was a bit smaller and the spot we occupy now was outside the original base, but either way, this puppy had it gone off would have taken out about half the building. So it appears I'm safer going out!!!! And I might get to shoot someone with my video game .50 cal.

Toon: I was just trying to help you get your morning rocks off!

Are you going to be able to manage your FF leagues out there?

That's how you die man, you feel like you can't workout because of the rat race then pffft, you die and you can't even finish the race.

There is no race, it's all made up to keep us busy fighting each other instead of fighting THE MAN :P

Shit, looks like you're in better shape than I am, though I am trying to turn that around. I need to lose about 20-25 pounds and I will be good. Watching my diet (mostly portion control (eating more often, but less) and not eating stupid shit) and doing some running. Trying to get back into my pushups routine and start a pullup routine too.

Anyways, if you can say, are you @ Bagram? My 'little' cousin in the Air National Guard was just deployed there, I think he may be escorting EOD when they do their thing.

Nah, Bagram is where the CJSOTF is located. They are three echelons above me. I'm in the Helmand province probably shouldn't really go into more detail than that. And pull-ups are a phenomenal exercise. You should do as many as you can at LEAST twice a day.

Next round of pictures due up tomorrow...

Well here's the results after one week. I don't really notice anything. But I do feel much stronger and energized already. Especially in the lower back and abs.
